12 DAYS INNER SRI LANKA

DAY1.

Airport pick up. Pinnawala elephant orphanage. The herd goes to the river at 10.00 a.m and stay there until. 11.45. In this governmental conservation project, they keep the ill, old, abandoned baby elephants, ensure them good conditions in big area, healing, two times 2 hours bathing in river, etc.

After we can go to Dambulla, where we can watch the golden Buddha statute and the rock cave temple monastery. Dambulla is Unesco Heritage Site, fascinating underground world of cave temples with thousands of statutes. [Night: Dambulla1]

 

DAY2.

Visit Mihintale forest monastery – Mihintale is a mountain peak near Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. It is believed by Sri Lankans to be the site of a meeting between the Buddhist monk Mahinda and King Devanampiyatissa which inaugurated the presence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. It is now a pilgrimage site. Visit Anuradhapura – the well-preserved ruins of an ancient Sri Lankan civilization and its former capital at Anuradhapura at the times of the first kingdom, now an Unesco World Heritage Site, and still the center of Theravada Buddhism. Huge stupas show the grandeur of this ancient city. [Night: Dambulla2].

 

DAY3.

The all day visit Polonnaruwa ancient city. The major attraction is a big archeologic park with the ruins of the ancient city of, a World Heritage Site. Its masterful stone carvings, palace complexes, and temples dating back to the 11th century testify the grandeur of the former kingdom. As we coming back, we stop at Girithale on the way. DAY4.

In the morning we climb Sigiriya. Go up on the stairs to the top, and watch the jungle from the top. On Sigiriya, the lava plug rock holds the ruins of an ancient empire. Built by King Kasyapa in the 5th century CE, the citadel that surrounds the main rock and its palace contains all the attractions.

We can go to an elephant riding if you want. You can enjoy a village experience program (2 hours it takes), where we go to the lake area on bull cart, after go by boat through a nice lake with water lilies and arrive to farmers houses, this mud houses has simple environment, ladies show how traditional farmers make their plantations, foods, they make a coconut sambol and herbal tea for the guests as a very delicious snack. DAY5.

On the way to Kandy, we stop for visiting the Matale hindu temple. This way you also can visit a an ayurvedic spice garden, where they introducing the healing plants and natural oils and powders for non-chemical medical treatment, and give a short back massage as a try (for free) of the famous Ayurveda massage. We are visiting Nalanda Gedige ruins. If you want we can visit a batik factory where the ladies producing beautiful batik textiles silks, with handmade technique. Afternoon we reach Kandy. We watch the Kandy dancers and fire eaters performance show (16.50). Around 17- 18.00 when it starts to dark and the drums starts to call the religious people to praying and lighting the candles we visiting the Buddha’s sacred tooth relic temple. [Night: Kandy]

 

DAY6.

We take a morning walk in Peradeniya Royal Botanical garden. This day we are heading to the hills. We can visit the Ramboda Falls. We visit a tea factory and tea plantations, where they explain the tea making process and there is a small tea degustation too. Watching Gregory lake at Nuwara Eliya. [Night: Nuwara Eliya]

 

 

DAY7  

We go to Ella. The relaxing hilltop village of Ella benefits from a more temperate climate than much of the rest of country thanks to its high elevation. The pleasant temperatures make the scenery surrounding Ella particularly lush and diverse, with cloud forests and tea plantations. We visit the Nine Arch bridge, and the Mini Adams Peak in sunset time.

 

DAY8.

We are visiting Ravana falls, than go to Jeep safari in the Lahugala Kitulana NP. The habitat includes marshes, grasslands. Elephants are attracted to the park. You may spot some, antelopes, dears, lot of birds, monguse, buffalos too. Go to an afternoon beach relax. [Night:Arugam bay1]

 

DAY9.

Arugam Bay beach leisure, learning to surf.

 

DAY10.

Sinharaja rainforest tour. This evergreen rain forest,is a national park and a biodiversity hotspot a UNESCO World heritage site, is one of the few virgin rain forests left to date. While you indulge in the serenity of the atmosphere rich in fauna & flora, you also get to experience the tranquil lifestyle.

 

  

DAY11.

Going through Ratnapura to Colombo. In Ratnapura, we can take a short stop at the Gemmological Museum, where everything is explained relating to the various gemstones found in Sri Lanka. We can watch Duwili Ella falls, a nice waterfall in Kalthota area Balangoda. [Night:Colombo]

 

DAY12.

Visit Colombo. Gangaramaya Temple. Kathiresan Hindu Kovil. Possible to visit Viharamahadevi Park, it’s notable for its trees, which bloom in March, April and early May. Drop off at airport. [Night in Negombo]
