17DAYS – FOR THE BIGGEST TRAVELLERS

DAY 1  

Airport pick up, transfer to a beach hotel in Negombo/ Waikkal area. We arrive at morning after an nightlong flight, so we spend the first day with beach beach relax and acclimatization as a starting day. [Night: Negombo or Waikkal].

DAY 2

We go up to north, stop at the ruins of Yapahuawa ancient kingdom. Afternoon we visit Anuradhapura – the well-preserved ruins of an ancient Sri Lankan civilization and its former capital at Anuradhapura at the times of the first kingdom, now an Unesco World Heritage Site, and still the center of Theravada Buddhism. Huge stupas show the grandeur of this ancient city. [Night: Anuradhapura].

 

DAY 3

Morning visit Mihintale forest monastery – Mihintale is a mountain peak near Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. It is believed by Sri Lankans to be the site of a meeting between the Buddhist monk Mahinda and King Devanampiyatissa which inaugurated the presence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. It is now a pilgrimage site.

At noon: Elephant riding at Sigiriya area. Afternoon we climb Sigiriya. Go up to the top, and watch sunset from the top of this ancient rock fortress. This lava plug rock holds the ruins of an ancient empire. Built by King Kasyapa in the 5th century CE, the citadel and its palace contains all attractions. [Night in Sigiriya]

 

DAY 4

In the morning we can go to a village experience program in Habarana (2 hours it takes), where we go to the lake area on bull cart, after go through a nice lake with waterlilies and arrive to farmers houses, this mud houses has simple environment, ladies show how traditional farmers make their plantations, foods, they make a coconut sambol and herbal tea for the guests. Daytime we the visit Polonnaruwa ancient city. The major attraction is an archeological park with the ruins of the ancient city of, a World Heritage Site. Its masterful stone carvings, palace complexes, and temples dating back to the 11th century testify to splendor and grandeur of the former kingdom. Visiting Medirigiriya vatadage. DAY 5

Beach leisure at Trinco, Nilaveli beach. You can go to snorkelling to Pigeon Island where with a little luck you can spot small peaceful sharks. You can visit afternoon the Khoneshwaram hidu temple at english fort, the lovers leap rocks [Night in Trinco2]

 

DAY 6

Dambulla, where we can watch thegolden buddha statute and the rock cave temple monastery. Dambulla is Unesco Heritage Site, fascinating underground world of cave temples with thousands of statutes. Kndalama lake: possibility to hot air balloning over over this area. [Night: Dambulla]

 

DAY 7

On the way to Kandy, we stop for Matale Aluvihare rock temple and the Hindu temple. We visit Nalanda Gedige ruins. After we stop for visiting an ayurvedic spice garden, where they introducing the healing plants and their natural oils and powders for non/chemical medical treatment and give a short back massage (for free) as a try for the famous Ayurveda massage. You can visit a batiq factory, where ladies making batique textiles with hand painting.

Kandy is the home of The Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most sacred places of worship in the Buddhist world. After a short sightseeing in Kandy at 18.00 when it starts to dark and the drums starts to call the religious people to praying and lighting the candles we visiting the Buddha’s sacred tooth relic temple. daily worship in the inner chamber of the temple. DAY 8

Pinnawala elephant orphanage. The herd goes to the river at 10.00 a.m. In this governmental conservation project, they keep the ill, old, abandoned baby elephants, ensure them good conditions, two times 2 hours bathing in river, etc. The elephant herd stays at the river until around 11.40 ) Before this, we can watch the baby feeding. Hence, the tourists can not go among the herd, if you want, we can also visit another elephant foundation, where you can go to the little river and wash the elephants and see them more closer. Afternoon we can a wood carving factory in Kandy, where you can watch the processing of masks, furnitures.

DAY 9 

In the morning, we can take a walk at the exotic Peradeniya botanical garden. After we are heading to the hills. We can go to Kitulgala to white water rafting program, which is am easy but nice rafting program, after you can swim in the jungle river (At this location the Bridge over the river Kwaii Hollywood movie was shooted). Sleep at night at Casterleigh reservoir. [Night Casterleigh]

 

DAY 10

Visiting Gartmore and Moray falls (Sri Pada wateralls). Take a photo about the Adam’s peak (Sri Pada) from the scenic Maskeliya lake area. Boat trip on the lake. [Night Casterleigh2]  

 

DAY 11

Visit Ramboda falls. Visit tea factory, where they explain the tea making process, and there is a tea degustation with several kind of teas. If you want a scenic train ride through hill county and Horton plains, the train goes from Nanu Oya to Ella at 15.00. After arrive in Ella we visit the mini Adams peak. The relaxing hilltop village of Ella benefits from a more temperate climate than much of the rest of country thanks to its high elevation. The pleasant temperatures make the scenery surrounding Ella particularly lush and diverse, with cloud forests and tea plantations.[Night in Ella]

 

DAY 12  

Morning we in Ella we visit the 9 arch viaduct. After we visiting Ravana falls. After heading to south. we stop for visiting Buduruwagala stone carvings, after we take an afternoon we visit Kataragama Temple, after we go to a Jeep safari at Yala national park. You can watch leopards, bears, antelopes, dears, crocodiles, lot of birds (pelican, cormorants, grey heron, etc), monguses, elephants, buffalos. [Night: Tangalle beach hotel]

 

DAY 13

We visit at the Rekawa turtle hatchery, Five species of turtles struggle ashore to lay their eggs on Rekawa Beach, where we can witness this.

After we go to a short visit to Wewurukannala vihara, which is one of the most amazing Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka. The Wewurukannala Vihara temple is dominated by an image of a seated Buddha. It is 160ft high, the largest statue in all of Sri Lanka and dates back to the time of King Rajadhi (1782 – 1798).We stop for a photo at the Dondra light house. Late afternoon beach relax. DAY 14  Whale and dolphin watching in the morning. We visit a snake conservatory farm. Visit Matara. Afternoon beach relax. (Night in Mirissa3)

 

DAY 15

We take a look to Koggala stick fishermen. Afternoon visit Galle fort and Rumassala Japanese peace pagoda. Rumassala is featured in the Ramayana, as the home of Queen Sita. Built with the help of Japanese monks. In the Bay of Galle, the Fort on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, was built in 1588 by the Portuguese, then fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century. DAY16

Sinharaja rainforest tour. This evergreen rain forest,is a national park and a biodiversity hotspot a UNESCO World heritage site, is one of the few virgin rain forests left to date. While you indulge in the serenity of the atmosphere rich in fauna & flora, you also get to experience the tranquil lifestyle.

 

DAY17

Morning beach leisure, relaxing. At noon: we visit Ambalangoda mask museum. After we visit a gem stone mine. Bentota, where we can take a small boat ride on mangrove river, where you can hold very small crocodiles also, and you can enjoy natural lake fish pedicure. (Night in Bentota2)
